Periodization refers to the categorization of history into specific parts for studying purposes. It is helpful for the following reasons.

Types of History

- History of Great man (or a biography) aims to explain history through the influences of “Great men”: individuals who are highly influential due to traits such as charisma, genius intellect, or great political impact.
- Social history is the narrative concerning social institutions and organizations.
- Cultural history deals with prevalent cultural traditions and cultural interpretations of historical experience.
- Local history focuses on a specific locality (e.g., a province, city, or town).
